:: Ku-Klux-Kristmas?
Okay, so this isn't the most P.C. title for a Meggisi post...but I think the photo below and the subject begs of it. So...it is Christmas Eve. Mrs. Pierre and I were just returning from candlelight service at church. We were looking at all the pretty holiday lights set up on neighbor's houses on the drive home. I have to say, we were a little ashamed that we did not get any put up on the new home for our first Christmas there. We vow to do much better this year, and make the neighborhood proud! Just as we turned the bend up the road that leads to our house, we see this in the yard across the street from ours:
Now, I get the idea that Christmas is about Christ...and I have seen my share of crucifix light displays through the holidays. I guess what struck us was that this was the only light display on their property! I could live with this if there was a nice nativity scene nearby, or even a few strands of icicle lights draped around the house, but no. Instead, this cross, ablaze with light giving it an almost "burn in effigy" effect...just like ones the KKK was known to produce as a symbol of terror and intimidation.
***NOTE to cheery Klan-member readers out there...I have researched your association with burning crosses, including your own website(s). I should point out that the top leaders and histroians of the KKK state that their use of "firey" crosses is simply a derivation of tradition passed down from the days of Roman Emperor Constatnine, through the Catholic church, and is symbolic of many "firey crosses" used by churches today (i.e. the Methodist and Presbyeterian churches which both employ firey cross symbology in thier logos.) I say bullshit...we all know why you burned crosses (they say 'officially' that cross burning is not condoned by the true KKK)
Ahem....I had to digress a little. As far as we know, our neighbors are NOT Klansmen, nor do I think they intended to have their holiday lights look like a cross burning ceremony in the suburbs. But it was a picture I had to share.

:: One Week to Christmas 2005
You may have noticed the countdown timer on Meggisi was changed to a countdown to Christmas back when Camp Meggisi was closed at the end of the season this year. I picked Christmas for a countdown rather than getting rid of the timer, just becasue I think the dang countdown timer is so cool...
Anyway, Christmas is a week away, and we are well into the spirit of the season. This morning we baked Christmas cookies with my sisters-in-law and my niece. This evening we finished up most of our gift shopping. Tomorrow I think we will get our first tree!
Another Pierre tradition is to see a show during this time of year. This year it was West Side Story at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. Very very good, I must say. The singing was great, and the choreography was even better. Very true to it's traditional performance roots (read: "very 1959")...and being performed in the Chan made that effect even better. I also must say that all the white-bread, scandinavian, MN actors portrayed PR's pretty good...accents and all!
More traditions to come. Oooh, I just remembered a good one...I need to make Chex Mix!

:: Sno'home-Ownership
Ah yes, winter in Minnesota means...SHOVELLING! We received 5" of new snow last night through tonight. Pretty light, light variety, but it still piles up. Here are some pics of the happy homeowners shovelling this evening!
