:: Why am I UP?!
Its 3am, and I can't sleep. Why? Storms...maybe. Here is the current radar:
But more likely it is heartburn (too much Peking Chicken tonight. Oh, and by the way...I think Lee Ann Chin puts something in her sauce that makes it addictive. I made Peking Chicken at home tonight using her bottled sauce and man was it good! Almost better than in the restaurant.
So I am trying to let the heartburn subside, and waiting for the rain. I will sleep like a baby once the rain starts. In the meantime, its a good opportunity to catch up on some blogs. Here is a summary:
+ Please don't vote for this guy who is running against a prominent DFL'er in Minneapolis. Check out the Planetdan history of this idiot: [1] and [2]
+ We are about 24 hours from the MN State Fair...myprontopup is in full swing
+ PrncsIce (a.k.a. the CP, alias Mrs. Pierre) has a big b-day coming up...as part of the celebratory weekend we will attend the Fair and see the Gear Daddies and the Bo Deans. I wanna drive the Zamboni!!!! Hopefully you will see more of PrncsIce here on meggisi...(ahem)

:: "New" Meggisi
Well, after a lot of procratination, I have finally rearranged the meggisi.org site...kinda. There is only one major change: you are currently looking at the main page. Why is this major? Well, this used to be the blog...separate from the main or homepage. Now the whole damn thing is really a just a blog.
Since most of my time has been devoted to posting on the Lakeville Weather Journal as of late, I thought this might be a good way to encourage myself to blog more. We will see how that works out :-p
If anything, I eliminated a lot of clutter...the "old" meggisi site structure had a couple of miscellaneous pages that I had built with grand intentions...camping and fishing stuff, recepies, links, aviation stuff, etc, etc. This blog was just another page, really. Now it is the up-front centerpiece of the website, as it should be. Also, MovableType 3.3 was recently released, and I have upgraded my installation...which should also encourage me to do much much more with this site, as well as lakevilleweather.com...which is "powered" by Movable Type. I have only scratched the surface of blogging capabilities (and for that matter, web authoring capabilities in general).

:: Get Together at the Fair(s)

Yes, yes...its getting to be that time again! The MN State Fair approaches, and as you can see by the counter above, it is close indeed! Before digressing into more about the "Great Minnesota Get Together", I want to give props to Brian, author of myprontopup.com, the one and only blogging authority on the fair. His blog has resided in my blogroll (at left) for a few years now, and continues to provide an excellent view of the fair and life itself through Brians camera lens and posts.
So... The fair (once again) continues to break boundaries and records as vendors and exhibitors try to improve upon years past. Several new foods have cropped up as they do every year, and they continue to become more and more bizzare (which may or may not mean appetizing). For example, Ole and Lena's is going to serve Tater-Tot Hot Dish on a Stick. Hmmm, I don't really know how that is going to work, other than the fact that most "on a stick" foods need to be deep-fried in order to remain on the stick. It comes with some kind of mushroom dipping sauce so, maybe it will be good. The folks at the fair has installed a food finder on their website, so you can search out any possible food to be found at the Fair.
The wife and I took the niece to another fair this last weekend - the Dakota County Fair...which has been around only one year longer than the MN State Fair (ok...history sidebar here: MN gained statehood May 11th, 1858, the spring before the first Dakota County Fair. Dakota county was one of MN's first counties...organized when MN was a territory, and the county extended westward to the Montana border. The MN State Fair was first organized a year after statehood in 1859). The biggest draw to the Dakota Co Fair are the Demolition Derbys, which are held four out of seven days. Every one of the "Demo's" as they are referred to here are sellouts...with bleachers packed.
Above is a shot of some of the wreckage remaining after the end of one of the heats. The shot is a little on the fuzzy side due to having to boost the pic (the original was pretty dark) but you get the idea. Twisted, tangled metal...roaring engines..flying dirt...all demo...all fun! Here is a shot of the crowd...
It indeed was packed...and tons of fun as always. I highly recommend seeing a demo if you get the chance. Hey, if you are going to the MN State Fair, let me know! Maybe I will see you there...Pierre always has at least one, and sometimes more than one, trip to the Fair each year.
